ailerons out of trim banks to left

Hello. Was wondering if anyone else experienced this issue. My 2023 Icon has always banked to the left when hands off. to hold level I need to apply slight right pressure and when looking at the ailerons at that point, they are aligned with the flaps. Any thoughts what would need an adjustment? maybe the right flap is slightly lower creating more lift and banking to the right?

It has to do with aileron float characteristics due to build tolerance. I developed procedure that uses plastic angle (off the shelf) that VHB tapes on to the lower surface of the aileron. That procedure is detailed in the maintenance manual (link below). The production test pilot should have noted that and fixed it (its in the production flight test checklist) but things were starting to go down hill after I left in 2021.

I also developed procedure using a time to roll 10 deg (large roll offs) and 20 deg (small roll offs) that would tell us how much to install during production flight test if after the first flight it rolled off.

Plastruct 90505 is the part number just google it. Several places to purchase online for about $10 for 24". The VHB is a bit more expensive and will come in large qty's you can buy it it larger widths and just cut it to size.

Hey Bret - how about if the ball is always slightly to the right during cruise? I've had the rudder re-rigged on a couple of inspections and nothing was ever found to be out of tolerance. I've flown plenty of trad. planes where after x number of rough landings its a known thing to have to put in a bit of rudder from the get-go. But I would think that, however rough my landings might be, carbon fiber wouldn't allow that twist to occur.

Never a big deal until I go X-country and then, by the end of the day, holding that tidbit of right rudder is simply annoying (and fatiguing).

    Ideas?

My pleasure guys. I'm an airplane nerd and I worked my ever loving ass off for the 5 years and 9 months that I was at ICON doing everything I can to develop and support this product. I have moved on to much bigger things but I'm a GA guy by heart and hate it when I see you all not being supported. If I know the answer I will always share what I can.

@ Michael as for the rudder, We used to adjust that as well during production flight tests. There is a tolerance that will allow you adjust the rudder a bit to get it to fly straight. The procedure is here. https://iconaircraftservice.com/main...tml#wwID0EQX3S

To truly properly measure the deflections took some special tooling so I don't know who was rigging your plane you can kinda "wing it" with some protractors. But a rod end one way or the other isn't going to hurt much you have a 1 deg right +/-1 deg tolerance. That should be enough to get it fly straight. This is all predicated on where you measure 1 deg right to be. This is where 3D printed tooling that attached to the tail really helps.

How much is the ball out?

Thanks again. Nice that you still have the interest. Sounds like you definitely have the knowledge.

Bret - my ball has always been about 3/4 of a ball displaced to the right during cruise.

I don't know how the two separate Icon approved service centers who supposedly checked it did so in the past. I, as well as others, did have a lot of issues with work not being done correctly by each of them over several years and they are both no longer A5 service centers.

I think we will build a rig with some 1x2s and use a digital protractor with the procedure you linked to.

I echo the thanks given by others to you on this thread. You are an invaluable resource to the group.

I think you meant the Icon’s ball. Sorry Michael I couldn’t resist. Good luck with it.
