gearbox for Rotax in icon
Anyone know where to get a rebuilt gearbox?, not sure I need one yet , just getting a jump on it. Icon service center wants to send mine out for inspection and possible repair which takes awhile and I am thinking maybe I could just get a rebuilt one sent in and replace it in less time than inspecting and possible repair or replacement anyhow.

I understand that this gearbox usually needs replacing at 500- 1000 hours (which is the 1st I've heard about it) . I can save time by just opting to buy a new one (unknown price yet?) or sending mine in to be rebuilt which takes awhile ( unknown time yet?) or there might be some rebuilt ones floating around somewhere. BTW , I'm at 500 hrs

FYI- I got quoted for a new gearbox at 10,000 ond refurbished at 5,000. To send to lockwood for inspection was 15 day turn around and $1,000 , plus your local labor. I opted to not even bother with inspection and just put the $1000 towards another which will also be less down time. Now I just got to figure out what to do with original gearbox?

Finally got my icon back, So as it ends up- with the older gearbox- it'll need to be rebuilt at about 500 hours. The rebuild Is $4680 and takes a couple weeks from Lockwood in Florida. Or you can skip the down time and have a new one ready to go (was quoted $7000 and $10,000 )
But either way the new/rebuilt one will get the oil spray nozzles updated so it will last 1000 hours now.
