Building a Stronger Safety Culture in the ICON Community
At Aero Capital Exchange, safety has always been a core part of how we operate and how we think about flying.
During our time working at ICON, we regularly participated in internal safety meetings where pilots openly discussed real-world scenarios, mistakes, and lessons learned. Those conversations were incredibly valuable because they helped keep risk awareness front and center for everyone.
We’re considering starting a series of recorded safety discussions for the ICON pilot community where pilots from this group can actively participate, share experiences, talk through decision-making, and highlight lessons that could benefit others. The intent is not to criticize or second guess, but to create a constructive safe environment where we can all continue learning from one another.
Before moving forward, we wanted to ask the group: would this be something you’d find valuable? And if so, what types of topics or experiences would you want to see discussed?
If you’ve had a situation, close call, or lesson learned that you’d be willing to share with the community, we’d love to have you participate.

Jen & Alex,
Excellent idea. I would love to see it and I'm sure so would everyone else. I've seen a lot of similar projects on the fora for the CJP, COPA and Twin Cessna Sites. In flight maintenance issues, pro-tips, actual emergency procedures, airspace issues, comm issues. The last one, I've had. For some reason, I'm having some issues hearing ATC with the windows open. I'm using Bose A20s and a G3X. And for the record my hearing is better than 10dB in all frequencies (I'm an ear doctor). If I'm going through busy airspace, I keep the windows in (not ideal in the summer). Any suggestions are most welcome.

Our second meeting will be held on Monday, June 15 at 12:00 PM EST. The goal remains the same: creating an open, constructive forum where pilots can share experiences, discuss decision making, and learn from one another.
We're excited to welcome Rich Bookbinder as our featured speaker.
Rich is currently a professor at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, teaching flight safety and commercial pilot operations. He is a retired California Highway Patrol pilot with experience flying helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft on law enforcement, medevac, and search & rescue missions. Rich also served as Director of Flight Operations and Safety Program Manager at ICON and has been a flight instructor since 1988. His aviation background includes flying cargo and passengers into remote areas of Alaska as well as FedEx Caravan operations.
We look forward to another valuable discussion and hope you'll join us. Please save the date; the Zoom link to connect is below.

Jen & Alex,
I think it’s great that you are hosting these safety meetings. I wanted to echo the question asked. If these meetings will be available to watch after the fact at some point?
I’m sure there are others, like me. Interested in watching, but can’t get away at that particular time.
Thanks,
Ted -

Hi Ted,
Absolutely. We know not everyone can step away during the live session, so we’ll be recording the meetings and sharing them with our members upon request afterward.
We do encourage anyone who can attend live to join us, as it gives you the opportunity to ask questions and participate in the discussion in real time.
Thanks for the support!
