    10 Year Inspection Update

    As 2025 wraps up the first Icon A5s (ASN 001-016 I believe) will be coming up on 10 years of age in 2026. I recently heard back from Icon about the 10-year inspection plan, and it they had good news to share! They are in the process of removing the calendar-based inspection requirement and plan to move into a 2000 hour interval requirement instead. Manuals are still pending but keep an eye out for this change.

    "Our analysisdetermined that the 10-year requirement was originally a conservative measurebased on limited long-term data available at the time. With the additional dataand analysis now available, we have concluded that the calendar-basedrequirement can be removed. The inspection will now be based solely on the2,000-hour interval, supported by fatigue analysis and the material propertiesof the adhesive.Please notethat the overhaul process is still under development. We will update ourwebsite and maintenance manual as these changes are implemented."

    That’s good news for making that policy post mosaic ASTM standards ?

    However, makes it more difficult for a flight school to amortize the cost life of the equipment for flight schools to purchase some ?*??

    I just appreciate all the work Alex and Jen (Aero Capitol Exchange) on this issue. It’s been a huge unknown for owners for the longest time. I know from 787 carbon fiber construction, their were a lot of conservative useful life number thrown around, and once planes started approaching the mark, analysis revealed parts had much more life in them. Glad ICON is realizing that too.
