Mounting a Garmin GDL 52 unit in the A5
Does anyone have experience in securely mounting the Garmin GDL 52 in a removable attachment? I am wondering if there is a RAM (or other mafcturer) mount available that could be clamped to the hand-hold on the center of the dash, for example. I see some suction cup devices that could be used, with some drawbacks for cables hanging around the cabin. Any ideas out there? Thanks. Bruce

When I bought my Icon, the GDL52 was on the handhold and it was REALLY inconvenient. The handhold is really useful and the thickness of the unit renders it nearly un-usable. My GDL52 is mounted on the interpod skin behind the handhold. Easy to see unless you are really short and out of he way with great access to outside. It also allows a Go-Pro mount on the handle which is really useful.

Michel, Thanks for your response. I had been using that location with the rubber pad provided by Garmin. The solution I am looking for is one which will also stabilize the unit during maneuvering and turbulence, which the inter-pod location was not completely satisfactory. I have ordered the mounting plate with suction cup device to see if it produces a more stable solution. As I see in your picture, you use a RAM mount for the iPad. I do so as well. I want to use the ForeFlight app feature with synthetic vision, fed by the GDL-52 AHARS data in a stabilized arrangement. I have not yet received the Garmin mounting plate so have no progress to report. Different subject: have you found a means for providing the SXM audio feeds to both headsets? I am about to try a splitter from the GDL 52, per Garmin's advice. I have also been provided the Garmin power plug (free after a phone call with them) that solved the problem of maintaining GDL 52 battery levels during long flights. The previous cigar-lighter device I was using was inadequate, resulting in lost GDL 52 functions from time to time. Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts on these matters. Kind regards, Bruce

Finding a way to adequately power the iPad and GDL52 was quite a challenge. The output of the power under the armrest is poor. I can send you a pic of the final solution which seems to work if I use anything under 80% brightness on the M4 iPad Pro 13 inch. I do not subscribe to Sirius XM so I have nothing to share there. I now have 4 separate 9+ hour flights with no loss of power for either device.
