Hey Tommy! Welcome! I am owner of #200 and have an ICON flight school in Denton called Iconic Flight (www.iconicflight.com or on FB or IG). Also in Denton there is US Sport Planes which is a certified ICON repair center. If you need anything with training or repairs we are not too far away! 214-799-3431

where more specifically, Tommy? There are Icons near pretty much every major TX metro. We're in the hill country, west of Austin and San Antonio (where we start to not have so much water!)

Sorry, I missed that. I did pass through there bringing the plane from GA to TX a few years ago, the leg from there to Austin in a tremendous thunderstorm, at night, was a real adventure!

I keep meaning to copy over some of my location reviews from the original owner's site and haven't gotten to it, but that included a number of central TX lakes, up to near Dallas at least (I know the Aquila reservoir was one, but that's closer I think to Waco than Dallas). I'll try to find some downtime to do that soon (before having to fully retire to find the time!)

I'd love to see us have TX and FL and any other good areas with Icon concentrations have more local meet ups, etc. I know Gary was working on something with several of us before he ended up at Cirrus.

I would love to have a Texas ICON seaplane meetup! We have two in Dallas area, and now with Tommy it will be three. I know in the Fall the North Dallas FSDO does a seaplane fly in at Cedar Mills on Texoma which has water and a grass strip to choose from. Restaraunt and housing available on site too. Last year was just me and a SeaRey.

Sign me up for a fly in, also you're welcome to visit us here at TX1 (seaplane) / T25 (grass), we have monthly gumbo meets for EAA fundraising and host a couple of fly ins. I'm obviously very new at this and want to find out where I can land safely, would love to see the info from the old site as I've heard horror stories from people who've landed on TX lakes and been chased by the cops/FAA...

The good news on Texas is, it’s the most permissive state on Corps of Engineering and state operated water ways. All waters, with slight restrictions of some, are allowed to be used. City and Private lakes can do what the want so the Seaplane Pilot Adsociation guide is key to reviewing. The problem is, with the decrease in seaplanes on the waters,
People have forgotten planes can land and takeoff on water. When I started flying up here north Dallas, cops arrived because someone called 911 saying I crashed into lake on fire (no clue where they saw a fire). Cops had to respond to 911 call, but had a good laugh when I talked to them via my dockside friends cellphone. Now that the school is training regularly, the general public is used to seeing us and know it’s all normal. We did have a good laugh!

I don't remember what statute it is but I have a printout in the plane of the TX statute that says essentially anywhere a powerboat can go a seaplane can go.

Here is what I have for Texas attached below. The Seaplane Pilot Guide goes into more details for specific lakes.

It was 26.003, the key language to me being "a governmental entity...may not in an area in which motorized boats are permitted...(1) prohibit the takeoff, landing, or operation of an aquatic aircraft; or (2) regulate or require a permit or fee for the operation of an aquatic aircraft."

I don't know why some LEOs assume that a seaplane wouldn't be allowed somewhere when jet ski and motorboat watercraft are, but clearly some do, and I know of tales of those encounters not all being very friendly and open-minded, which is why I printed that out and put it permanently in the plane to have handy!
