    Altimeter digits failure

Has anyone been able to get their altimeter digits repaired. Mine are almost unreadable and i just got a price from Mandy of $3250 for a replacement. Thats five times more than a typical GA altimeter.

I am pretty sure I paid 1250 from Mandy for a rebuilt one. It works GREAT!

SN088 — we just had to replace ours back in September. It was $1250 for the refurbished altimeter and $1100 for the labor and test flight afterwards. We also had our oil pressure gauge replaced at the same time so the labor hours will probably be less if they are just installing the altimeter

Has anyone gotten a clue as to what company is refurbishing our altimeters??

Curious to know - how many hours for it to get this way?

I just got mine replaced six months ago and it’s completely dead on both digital displays

Sounds like the manufacturer should be giving a break on the price, rather than taking advantage of the situation. Given it’s obviously a defect. The instructor that trained me on the Icon, said they’re all like that.

That sucks! So even the refurbished altimeters have the same issues it appears. I had just asked Mandy this morning for a current price on the refurbished ones.

Maybe we should all get together and tell Icon: either face a class-action suit or give us an MRA to allow us to install a mechanical altimeter.

What did you do about this? My aircraft had ~40hrs on it when I picked it up and the 1000s window is blank...

Just had this issue. My baro and altitude windows went blank rather quickly. Icon replaced it under the altimeter manufacturer’s warranty.

I am on my 4th altimeter. I understand that they come out of Germany or France. My first failed at about 50 hours, the second not many hours later. The third failed at about 200 hours. I then wrote to ICON asking for some "consideration" for this issue. I received authorization for my service center to install a replacement at no charge (other than labor). So far I am at 370 hours with none of the early signs of incipient failure. The replacement cost is about $3,500 as I recall. This means that the cost to ICON is about $1,500 to $1,700 USD. ICON deserves some slack in this issue. They made the change from the standard mechanical altimeter in the interest of user experience and safety with altimeters registering the nearest 20 feet instead of the nearest 200 feet. This is a big difference when we are teaching ICON students to fly regularly and safety below 400-500 feet. Our ICON community is the beneficiary of the 1,000 foot fidelity altimeter. I have to imagine that they have enough data to know that this reliability issue must be remedied. It will benefit our owner pilot community to keep this perspective in keeping pressure on the management and the engineering teams to find a vendor solution that demonstrates reliability at affordability. My 2¢
